Mt. Pisgah’s Ryan Felice brings down Austin Kile of River Ridge during the Patriots’ 26-0 victory on Friday in Johns Creek. Felice, a sophomore safety, has also doubled as the team’s quarterback during the early stages of the season.

Through two convincing victories to start the 2010 season, head coach Doug Dixon said his team’s strength at the point of attack has most impressed him in Mt. Pisgah’s wins over Cross Keys and River Ridge.
The Patriots (2-0) have relished playing smash-mouth early on, racking up over 800 yards on the ground against the Indians and Knights.
“I’ve been very impressed with the way we’ve controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball,” said Dixon, in his fourth year as Pisgah’s head coach.
“I’m proud of our guys’ attitude,” Dixon added. “You know and I know that your attitude determines your latitude.”
Running backs Max Aden (417 yards) and Ben Mozingo (208 yards, 4 TDs) have done the damage on the ground behind a physical and experienced Pisgah line. With quarterback/safety Ryan Felice chipping in 78 yards and three scores on the ground, Pisgah has decidedly controlled the tempo of each of its first two games.
The Pats will look for much of the same on Friday at Southwest Atlanta Christian (0-1).
In other action, it was a week to forget for the local 6AAAAA teams, as all five squads (Alpharetta, Centennial, Milton, Northview and Roswell) dropped their Week 2 decisions.
Highlights from Friday were Johns Creek’s first ever GHSA varsity win — over Sequoyah, 24-21 — and Blessed Trinity’s exciting 17-14 home defeat of a very good Grady team.
Furthermore, Chattahoochee appeared to be every bit a Region 7AAAA contender in smacking Lambert, 31-7, in Suwanee.
King’s Ridge posted back-to-back shutouts by blanking Lakeview Academy, 13-0, in Gainesville.
Fellowship Christian was idle last week.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Roswell (0-2) welcomes the friendly confines of Ray Manus Stadium on Friday, where the Hornets will play their first home game of the season on the heels of two rough road losses to Region 7AAAAA teams.
Following setbacks at Collins Hill and Peachtree Ridge, the third such foe in Roswell’s early inter-region schedule is Norcross. The Blue Devils (2-0) have defeated a pair of 8AAAAA opponents in Dacula and Parkview thus far, surrendering but 12 points in the process.
This one figures to be a low-scoring affair, with the team that better protects the ball having the best opportunity to emerge with a victory.
The teams last met back in 1981, when Norcross took a 34-12 decision. Roswell leads the all-time series 8-4, but has not defeated the Blue Devils since 1971.
